"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves." 2 Corinthians 13:5

The 11th chapter of Hebrews is known for its listing of people who demonstrate a strong persevering faith in God. In the 8th verse, Abram, or Abraham, is mentioned as one of those people.

Abram entered into a covenant relationship with God and was told he would become the father of a great nation, whose offspring would be too great in number to count. Afterward, God changed Abram's name to Abraham and gave him a great test of faith that we are told he passed with flying colors.

Abraham was told to leave his home and travel to a place where he had never been. He was not told exactly where he was going nor was he told what he would find once he got there. Abraham's faith seemed to be his willingness to trust God's direction without knowing where God was leading him.

In Corinthians 13:5, Paul challenges us, as Christians, to examine ourselves and test our own faith. One can only surmise the best way to do that. Where Abraham was tested to determine his willingness to trust God's leadership, each of us will probably find God's testing to be uniquely crafted to match our circumstances.

One thing for sure; God's leading will never contradict Scripture and His expectation will be no more or no less from that which He expected from those listed in the Hebrew's faith chapter.

Today I challenge you with the words of Paul: Examine and test yourself. See if you are responding to God's testing in a way that is consistent with the heroes of the faith listed in Scripture.

The best way to do that is to go down the list of every person in the Hebrew's list, and uncover every act of faith taken by those mentioned. Now, compare your life to theirs. Is your testing like theirs? Is your faith standing the test or is your faith lacking?
