Dealing with Strongholds
The Canaanites, Part 4 of 5

Because of the immorality of the Canaanites, God knew His people would acquire their sinful lifestyle if they dwelt among them in peace. So, God commanded His people to destroy the enemy, their cities, their altars of worship and their possessions. In many cases God's people followed His instruction, but most often they were unwilling to do so. Instead of destroying them, God's people forced their enemy into slave labor and permitted them to continue their pagan practices unrestricted, something God never desired. (Judges 1-3)

When they failed to obey the Lord, the Angel of the Lord appeared to the Israelites and said, "I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I swore to give to your forefathers. I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.' Now therefore, I tell you that I will not drive them out before you; they will be thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you."

Even before that generation died, a sin-cycle was exercised that has been repeating ever since. Yes, the spiritual law of man's sin and God's forgiveness is as predictable as the law of gravity. It's amazing that men will live and die believing the principle of scientific reasoning yet never come to grips with God's law that forms the foundation for that scientific reasoning.

God doesn't want His children playing around with sin. But all too often we do that very thing when we indulge the world, wink at sin and assume God isn't looking. The truth is that God doesn't tolerate disobedience any more than He tolerates sin. In God's eyes, partial obedience is the same as complete disobedience.

LESSON FOUR.
When our SIN NATURE prevails, we are slow or fail to purge elements of sin from our life.

When THE HOLY SPIRIT prevails, we destroy everything in our life that was born out of the Enemy's activity and influence.

Our enemy's name is CANCER. Much in the same way cancer destroys the body from within, the influence of sin can destroy our life from the inside out. Sometime, the only way to get rid of cancer is to cut it out. Why not call your enemy by his real name.
