"A person's state before God may always be measured by his prayers. Whenever we begin to feel careless about our private prayers, we may depend on it, there is something very wrong in the condition of our souls. There are breakers ahead. We are in imminent danger of shipwreck." J.C. Ryle

Most people would admit there are times when they just don't feel like praying. And they may also admit that finding the "right" time to pray is equally difficult. So, what's a person to do?

Jesus made time to pray. He prayed early in the morning (Mark 1:35); sometimes all night (Luke 6:12); in time of deep distress (Luke 22:42); and publicly in the synagogue (Luke 4:16) just to name a few instances.

In most every situation where Jesus found himself, there is a corresponding account of prayerful preparation. It would seem Jesus anticipated the events of the day by bathing it in prayer in advance.

How would you fare if your spiritual condition was judged by the amount of time you spend in daily prayer? When you realize that a difficult situation lies ahead, do you stop and pray, or do you take your chances and "go it alone". Jesus didn't.

"But I cry to you for help, O Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you." Psalm 88:13
