"The Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?'" Judges 6:14

God told Gideon to avoid looking at his own strength when considering God's call. What a wonderful thought, "Go in the strength you HAVE!" To me, that means I have "enough" strength and talent right now to obey God and follow Him. I don't need anything else in order to be obedient.

I rely on the fact that God is faithful to equip me to do the thing He calls me to do. But, I confess that all too often I take stock of my natural ability and say with Gideon, "I can't do it, Lord. <add any excuse here>"

The angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, and said, "Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die". Gideon was so moved by the experience, he erected an altar to remember the event for the rest of his life. He called his altar, "The Lord is Peace" - the compound name for God, "Jehovah Shalom".

But, even after the visit from God Almighty, Gideon continued to ask God to confirm the call, which God did over and over again. Gideon didn't understand readily, but God was nevertheless willing to meet Gideon at the point of his need. God wanted to prove through Gideon that He was able to finish what He started.

Are you listening to God today? Have you asked Him to show you where He wants you to go? Are you willing to follow Him when He calls? Are you waiting for "clarification" and using that as an excuse for your continued disobedience?

"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you..." Ephesians 1:17,18a
