When a person makes a resolution, they display a desire to do something. However, a resolution, like those made at the beginning of the New Year, are seldom completed. In fact, we even make jokes about the fact that such plans are doomed to fail. Such resolutions seldom bring about change and should actually be called preferences because they are subject to change as soon as another preference is stated. Like shifting wind, a man controlled by such changing emotion states intention more than devout resolution. The first chapter of James in the New testament, tells us that God will not bless such a man. Conviction, on the other hand, is the determination of a person, who by God's power plans to stand fast on God's revealed Word regardless of those who stand with or against them. They determine to do so even if it means facing certain persecution, even to the point of total sacrifice. God blesses the person who acts on godly conviction. As you consider your actions today, do you view your resolutions as those based on faith displayed through conviction or on preference based on as emotional response? Just Thinkin'...
