"For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her." Proverbs 8:11

Solomon asked for wisdom and God gave it to him, which proves to me God is the source of wisdom and man can't earn it. What is wisdom? Let's talk about what it's not. It's not knowledge and it's not discernment, but God gave both to Solomon as a result of his asking for wisdom. Simply stated, wisdom is seeing things from God's perspective. That only comes by embedding God's word in your life and being controlled by the Holy Spirit.

In the parable of the Talents that Jesus preached (Mt 25), he said, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" He was speaking to two of three servants who had taken what was given them and multiplied it. The man who was given the least did the least with it and was condemned for his action.

There is another lesson we should learn from the parable. The amount earned is not as important as the fact there's a return on the investment when the master returns to check on our progress. The object of the parable? Failure to fully utilize what God has placed in our care renders it worthless.

Have you been faithful in using the talents God placed in your care. Don't be mistaken and think Jesus is talking about just skill and ability. As someone who can't carry a tune in a bucket, you may falsely conclude there have been no talents given you. A talent is anything God has given you with the expectation you invest it for his glory.

While you're thinking about you special abilities consider this. Some people have disabilities and they are talents from God every bit as much as the beautiful tune from the finest musician you've ever heard. It's true, talents come in different wrapping.

Are you using what God has given you to glorify him? Joni Eareckson Tada broke her neck in 1967 and has been a quadriplegic ever since. Her disability is not a handicap, but a talent which she has multiplied countless times over for God's glory. http://www.joniandfriends.org/pages/welcome.shtml

There is unmistakable evidence from Scripture that indicates God will examine what we have done with what he's placed in our hands. A wise man will reevaluate his "problems" and determine which ones are in fact a gift from God. When he finds it, he understands that God intends for him to invest it in God's work and not use it as an excuse for not doing it.
