They must not leave any of it till morning or break any of its bones. When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.

It was the first time since leaving Egypt that the people celebrated the Passover. The lamb of the sacrifice we know now was a foreshadow of Jesus, the Lamb of God. However, it's significant that God told them not to break any of the lamb's legs.

In Psalm 34:20, David wrote of the Messiah to come: "he protects all his bones, not a one of them will be broken." It was customary after a crucifixion to break the legs of the one on the cross. This would cause the person to suffocate for lack of getting air to their lungs. John 19:33 tells us that when the soldiers approached Jesus on the cross, they saw that he was already dead so they did not break his legs but instead drove a spear into his side to burst his lungs that were now filled with blood and water. Prophecy was fulfilled - again!

The Passover was a celebration where the people were to remember the way God passed over the homes of those who spread the blood of the sacrificial lamb over their doors. In Proverbs 10:29, Solomon wrote, "The way of the Lord is a refuge for the righteous." In the desert, the people learned to follow explicit instructions from God. A tent didn't offer much shelter from the elements. They didn't understand everything they were told. All they knew was God said to do it.

God expects the same response from us as the Israelites in the desert. You can imagine the people in the houses in Egypt on the first Passover did not sleep as the Angel of death went overhead. Instead, they were alert because they knew they would be leaving at a moment's notice.

We should expect to be leaving soon as well. After describing the events at the End of the Age, Jesus told his disciples, "If he comes suddenly(referring to his Second Coming), do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!'"

Are you watching? Are you ready? Are you listening to what God is telling you in in his Word? Are you being obedient. If you are, you're awake spritually and watching the signs.
