...and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
Hebrews 5:7

Anyone who has read the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, shouldn't be surprised to learn that Jesus prayed a lot. Neither should they be surprised to learn that God listened to his Son and answered His prayers. But upon learning that the Father heard and answered His Son's prayer on the same basis He hears and answers ours, we'll probably be a little taken back.

Hebrews tells us in chapter 4 and 5 that Jesus is our Great High Priest. He performs the intercessory services for us in a similar way to the Levite priest offered sacrifices for those who needed it. But understand this: if we don't have the access that Jesus enjoys, it's our fault! Even though Jesus is our Priest, He offers us the access He enjoys, but whether we have it is determined on the basis of how we submit to His Lordship.

Reverent submission - what is that? Reverence is viewing God as high and lifted up and worthy of praise. Submission is personally surrendering our will and way to God's will and way. When we pray in a spirit of humility, we willingly surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That is the key that unlocks the door to being heard by the Almighty.

Have you learned to approach God in such a way that he wants to hear what you have to say? Or are you working a different plan whereby you think you can earn his attention? If Jesus couldn't do it and he deserved it, what makes you think you can?
