Next, I turned to look at all the acts of oppression that make people suffer under the sun. Look at the tears of those who suffer! No one can comfort them. Their oppressors have all the power. No one can comfort those who suffer.
Ecc 4:1

Suffering is the usually result of someone else exercising liberty without compassion.

Live it
If you live in America and drive a car, then you've seen them. They hold cardboard signs and stand at an intersection begging for a handout. They're called panhandlers and stand outside your car window hoping you'll feel guilty and give them money. There's little doubt whatever suffering they endure is mostly self-inflicted.. But there are people around the world who tonight will go to sleep hungry and just as many will have no roof over their head when it's time to retire. No doubt poverty makes many suffer, but some do so for having conviction that those in power find offensive. You may not realize this but most first-century Christians lived beneath the streets of Rome in catacombs in order to avoid persecution and outright martyrdom at the hands of religious zealots. During this season of celebrating freedom and independence, why not take a moment and pray for those who don't have freedom from oppression we Americans take for granted.

Pray it
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Eph 6:18
