One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

He waits in ambush in the villages. From his hiding places he kills innocent people. His eyes are on the lookout for victims.
Ps 10:8

Funny how victim and victor share the same root but are opposing implications.

Live it
As I was driving home from work last night, the two lane road I traveled was congested in both directions. The cars in front of me were stopped at a traffic signal and as always, I try to leave a little room between me and the car in front of me so I can maneuver out of line if I need to do so. Then, as the traffic started to move ahead, I pressed the accelerator just when Mercedes swerved halfway in front of me from the right turning lane. I slammed on my brakes to avoid hitting him in the side and thankfully the car behind me saw what was happening and didn't hit me from the rear. As the Mercedes straightened in front of me, I was able to see their license plate which believe it or not, read "VICTIM." I couldn't help but laugh aloud.

I find it hard to take a person owning a Mercedes and living in the part of town in which I was driving, as being any kind of victim. So I imagined the possible occupation of someone who would purchase a plate like that. I concluded he was probably a lawyer who makes his living from accidents where he might profit from someone else's misery. As I continued driving home, I thanked God for his grace and imagined how that plate should have read. But then again, I don't think "HYPOCRITE" would fit the plate.

Pray it
Would that all Christians could have a auto license plate that read "VICTOR." But then again, I wonder if such a proclamation would as hypocritcal as the person whose plate read "VICTIM." Will we rise above the problems of today and soar on wings as eagles or gripe and complain as we fly with turkeys?
